A case of triiodothyronine-secretor with hypo-metabolism.

Med., 1973, 110 (4), 319-327-A 35-year-old man had vague complaints as headache, vertigo, nausea and fatigability. His face was slightly edematous but ocular symptoms or goiter were not observed. BMR and serum BEI were low; thyroidal 24-hours 131I-uptake was low in the normal range and 131I-T3 resin sponge uptake was normal. Plasma TSH was not detectable. Thin-layer chromatographic analysis of iodinated compounds extracted from both serum and thyroid gland revealed the existence of triiodothyronine but no thyroxine. This patient was diagnosed as T3-secretor with hypometabolism and was treated with l-T4, which resulted in amelioration of his complaints. triiodothyronine secretor; hypothyroidism; free triiodothyro nine
